FAQs
Why tallow?
We love tallow for many reasons but let’s name a few:
Beef tallow can help soothe and calm the skin, as it contains natural compounds such as antioxidants that reduce inflammation.Tallow's composition closely resembles sebum, the skin's natural oil, allowing for easier absorption and recognition by the skin.Tallow is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, which support cell regeneration and skin elasticity. It also contains omega-3 fatty acids that help nourish and strengthen the skin barrier.Tallow can help restore lipids lost during cleansing, reducing dryness and enhancing skin resilience. High-quality tallow balm is non-comedogenic, which means it shouldn't clog pores or cause breakout
Does our tallow balm smell like beef?
The short answer is… maybe, but let us explain why!
We choose not to purify our tallow with salt & water during the rendering process because we don't want to diminish its incredible benefits for the skin. Purifying tallow to remove its natural scent can reduce its effectiveness by up to 50%. To ensure our customers get the full range of benefits, we keep the tallow as close to its natural state as possible. What some may see as imperfections are actually what makes tallow so remarkable.
What benefits could be lost?
The refining process can strip away vitamins from the tallow's healing fractions and alter its fatty acid profile. It may also disrupt the balance of Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids, leading to an imbalance of polyunsaturated fats. Additionally, the purification process can introduce pathogens to the fat, which can compromise the safety and effectiveness of the product. Even though purifying the tallow is with the intention of creating a product that is appealing to everyone, it diminishes the quality of the skin care and the benefits that beef tallow has to offer.
